How much should I be eating?

Has a doctor or nutritionist ever told you how many calories you should be consuming each day? No? Well, let’s find out!

At first it can seem like a challenge to keep within that limit. But once you have some sense of how much you should be eating, you can start to plan your meals accordingly.

You will also know how much is too much, making it easier not to go overboard when dining out.

What is your optimal weight?

Start by calculating your BMI (Body Mass Index). This will tell you your ideal weight.

Weight (kg) / (Height (in meters) x Height (in meters)) = BMI

BMI range for healthy weight is from 18.5 to 25.0.

An elevated BMI is a sign of elevated blood sugar (the cause of obesity) and puts you at greater risk of diabetes, hardening of the arteries, and other potentially life-threatening conditions.

You can calculate your optimal weight with this formula:

Height (in meters) x Height (in meters) x 22 = Optimal Weight (kg)

For example, the optimal weight of someone who is 170 cm tall would be 64kg (1.7 x 1.7 x 22 = 63.58).
