You might be surprised to learn that the most important thing isn't so much what you eat, but when.
That's right: you should be eating your breakfast, lunch and dinner at more or less the same time every day.
Of course it's important to eat nutritionally balanced meals, but don't skip or delay a meal just because you don’t have time to prepare it perfectly. Just eat!
Too busy for breakfast? Even if you only have time for a morning coffee, make it a milky latte, and grab something — toast, fruit or a boiled egg — to eat on the go.
Find a way to work in some kind of vegetable and you have yourself a perfectly balanced breakfast!
You also need to be aware of portion size and timing. Keep breakfast light, and aim to eat about the same amount at lunch and dinner.
And, I know it’s hard, but always eat dinner as early as you can!
The dinner trap
Do you find yourself coming home at the end of a busy day and consoling yourself with an indulgent dinner?
Be careful! The body burns fewer calories at night, so that big dinner means elevated blood sugar all night long.
This is even more true if you are prone to diabetes, since your body may not be able to secrete enough insulin to keep your blood sugar down.
Evening is the time to say NO to junk food, sweets and sugary drinks.
Following this one rule will make all the difference in your fight against diabetes and obesity, and will help you maintain an ideal weight too.
